THE TURN

You survived the flop and are still in the pot.The turn (fourth community card) is here. The turn should reveal a lot to you.Did you make your hand?Did you improve your hand?Did you completely miss your hand? These are the questions you should ask yourself and act accordingly.

TOP PAIR

•  ACTION – Top pair could still be a solid hand on the turn. I would either call a bet or bet first, as long as there are no flush or straight possibilities. Flush possibilities are much easier to recognize, but with practice, you will be able to spot almost all of the straight possibilities.

•  CALL – If you were first to bet and were called you could be in a few situations. You could be against the same hand with a different kicker. A lower pair is still a possibility, which you have beat. You will see a lot of loose players online, and to see people call with a low pair is not uncommon. Take advantage of these players and let them keep calling with second best hands. Someone could also be slow playing their hand, but I wouldn't worry about that right now.

•  RAISE – If your bet was raised, you have to be careful when holding a pair. If there is a flush or straight possibility, you are probably beat and should get out. You have to also be careful of three of a kind. Someone may have just pulled the trigger on their check raise and you are now the victim. Three of a kind is hard to detect. If the player who raised the pot is tight, they you should fold. If the raiser is a loose and aggressive player then a call wouldn't be a bad idea, since he could be bluffing. If the board paired on the turn, full house and three of a kind possibilities are present as well. These hands have you beat badly. If you suspect that they are holding either of these two hands you need to get out of the pot immediately.

PAIR

ACTION – Holding a pair that isn't the top pair is not a good situation on the turn, especially if you are one of the first players to bet at the pot. Again, position comes into play, and it will a lot in poker. If you are one of the first to act, just check and hope for a free card. If you are the last person to act and nobody bet at the pot yet, your pair may be the best hand. Put a bet out there to see where you stand.

CALL – If your bet was called then you should realize that you may be beat. Somebody may be setting an extensive trap for the river, but be glad that you got in with just a small bet to see one more card.

RAISE – If your bet was raised, you probably just fell into somebody's check raise. You must fold the hand since you only have a small pair.

TWO PAIR

ACTION – Two pair is still a solid hand on the turn, especially if there are no straight or flush possibilities. If you were just called on the flop then you should throw another bet into the pot to see how people react. If you were raised on your flop bet then you should check to the raiser. He may be holding three of a kind and you don't want to add any unnecessary money to the pot.

CALL – If your bet was called, you may still be up against a drawing hand or a pair, which are both beaten by your hand. You could also be up against a three of a kind, but that is unlikely since most people will raise that type of hand on the turn. You should still make a mental note that your opponent may be setting an extensive trap up for you to lose more money.

RAISE – If you are raised, you are either up against a bluffer or a better hand than yours. If the player raising the pot plays tight, than he is probably not bluffing and has you beat. You can call or fold about fifty percent of the time. If the player raising the pot is know to be loose than you can suspect bluff and call him.

TRIPS

ACTION – Trips is an excellent hand to have on the turn especially without the possibility of a flush or straight on the board. When the board does not have a flush or straight possibility, you will want to continue to slowplay your hand. If the board has straight or flush possibilities a bet will show you where you stand.

CALL – If your bet was called you may be up against a pair, drawing hand or two pair, which are all good hands to be up against since you have them beat. Slowplaying by your opponent is unlikely since you have the best hand. If there is a flush or straight possibility and an opponent called your bet, be careful that they may have you beat with a flush and are slowplaying the aggressor.

RAISE – If your bet was raised, and there is no flush or straight possibilities on the board, you probably have them beat. You can reraise them, especially if your hand is the best possible right now. If there is a flush or straight possibility, then you are probably beat and should seriously consider folding.

THE NUTS

ACTION – If your slow play didn't get any biters on the flop, then you need to put a bet into the pot. If your trap got action then you can check to set them up for a raise.

CALL – If your bet is called, you should be happy because you will be making some money. Let the players call all they want with the second and third best hands, the more money in the pot is better for you holding the nuts.

RAISE – This is another good situation, since someone is adding more money in the pot for you. If there is three or more players in the pot you should just call. This will allow more of the players to throw there money away to you. If you are heads up with the raiser, reraise them and let them know that you have them beat.

DRAWING HANDS AND OVERCARDS

ACTION – If you are still on a drawing hand by the turn you will be just looking for free cards. Check the pot and hope that nobody else bets. If there is a bet and your pot odds don't look good, fold. If the pot odds are in your favor and you think that your hand will win if you hit it, then call the bet.

OVERCARDS

You are lucky to still be in the pot at this point. You are looking for free cards chack around and fold to any bets at this point.
