PREFLOP TACTICS BASED ON POSITION
Once you determine where you are on the table use these guidelines to decide which cards to play. If you use these guidelines for your starting hands, you will become a tight player. Tight and aggressive styled players, which are talked about in another section, are by far the most feared and successful at most tables. You will be playing very few hands, but when you enter a pot you will be strong no matter what position you are in. Follow these guidelines and the profits will definitely flow in the long run.
EARLY POSITION
Any pair of cards 10 or higher
AK, AQ, AJ and KQs (suited)
WARNING: Do not be tempted to play any other hands than these in this position. You must remember that Early Position is the worst position at the table. Stay away from A10, KJ, K10 and QJ. If you begin to losen up your requirements and play these hands in early position, you will lose money in the long run.
MIDDLE POSTION
All Early Position Cards
Any pair of cards 6 or higher
A10, AXs, KQ, QJ, J10
No, I did not forget to include K10, or Q10. Middle position does not warrant a call from these mediocre hands.
LATE POSTION AND DEALER
All Early and Middle Position Cards
Any pair of cards 4 or higher. You can even play as low as a pair of twos if the pot is not raised.
K10, Q10, 109s, 89s
Remember that late position and dealer position are the best places to be on the table. You should raise most pots if you hold High Pairs (10 and up) and Big face cards e.g. AK, AQs, etc.
SMALL AND BIG BLINDS
If the pot is raised, only play hands from Early Position group
If the pot is not raised you can play hands from both the Middle and Late Position groups.
