AFTER THE FLOP- BLUFFING

Now that we have the basic calling, checking, raising and folding down it is time to learn a few more advanced concepts of hold em strategy. The next three strategies are very useful to any hold em player, but should not be overdone. Bluffing too many hands will not be profitable in the long run. Pick and choose your spots to use the strategies listed below. If you do use them correctly, you will become a player that is not only winning money, but will be very tough to read by your opponents.

BLUFF- Making your opponents think that you have a much stronger hand than you actually do by raising the pot.

Bluffing a pot is not for the half hearted. You must be confident that it will work and raise the pot an amount that you will think will take them out of the hand. Don't put all of your chips in the pot unless you are absolutely positive that your opponents will fold, otherwise you will be broke or out of the tournament if they call your bet.

BE CAREFUL if you have raised the pot and you get a player that calls your bet. Your opponent probably has a hand that will beat yours. Don't get too crazy with your betting after your bluff was called. If you try bluffing at it again, make sure you are confident that they will fold, otherwise you will lose a lot of money on a hand you can't win. I recommend that beginners simply check next time if their bluff was called.

You must pick your spots. Do not bluff too many pots. The key to the bluff is the deception factor and if you are bluffing too much, you are no longer being deceptive, and are just plain obnoxious. If you do decide to bluff too many pots online I can guarantee that you will lose most of your money in the long run.

WARNING: Online players tend to call a lot more bets than in live poker. Because of this you have to be incredibly careful when deciding to bluff a pot. The most important rule when playing online is to stop bluffing once it has been called. The point of the bluff is to get someone out of the pot. If your bluffing did not accomplish this, than the bluff did not work and should end right then and there. Don't be a fool losing all of your money on a pot that you should have been out of a long time ago. Put the ego aside and cut your losses. There will be plenty more times that the bluff will work and you will be in the money.
