WPS San Jose, Costa Rica

The recent World Poker Showdown tournament held August 18-27 at the Raddison Hotel / Casino Europa in San Jose, Costa Rica, turned out to be a learning experience for some, while the winner, Henrik Alin AKA Harry Potter, walked away over $61,000 richer. The Main Event had 86 entrants who battled over 3 days, ending in one of the shortest final tables in recent memory, which began at 7:30 pm and finished at 9:19pm when Henrik Alin called an all in with pocket Jacks.

Actress Nicole Sullivan w/djorgandonor

Entrants came from all over the world and included 8 players sponsored by AmericasCardroom.com, as well as the actress Nicole Sullivan who busted out of the tournament after going all in chasing a flush. Djorgandonor, better known as Smitty, was one of those sponsored by ACR, and had traveled down from the Windy City to participate. He finished 11th, just a squeak out of the money, and summed up the experience this way: “It was my first live tournament and I learned a hell of a lot. That alone was worth the whole trip. I’m generally anti-social, but everyone I met here was so friendly; they couldn’t have been nicer. Great bunch of people. There was no real tension in the room, and to me it was more like a working man’s tournament.”

The next WPS event will be held at the Sonesta Maho Beach Hotel and Resort, St. Maarten N.A. November 4-18, 2006.

Complete coverage of this tournament, including photos, was compiled by the 3 Steves: Esteban Rodriguez, Steve Corrales, and Steven Saldana (great job guys!) and can be found here: (ACR)http://tracking.pokerroomreview.com/?refID=8 , click on tournaments, click on live feed.
